How many people know their parent’s bleeding tears of history? The Down to the Countryside Movement (literally "Up to the mountains and down to the villages") was a policy instituted in the People's Republic of China in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Mao Zedong, the president of the People’s Republic of China wanted to lead the youth studied how to be a worker and farmer. He made this decision because he wanted to present the communism to against the capitalism during he governed the China. As a result, thousands of youth sent to the mountainous areas and farming villages. My dad, one of the victims who was influenced by the Down to the Countryside Movement became a decadent and lives with his rest life.
During the Down to the Countryside Movement, my dad lost the opportunity to attend university. When he was drunk, he always talked to me about he was an excellent student in primary school. He said he was a great poet and he used to talk to ladies like a gentlemen. Anyway, Mao’s policy made everyone leaves their school and goes to observe and learn from real life when they were young. Thus, my dad left school and followed the leader what he wanted his people to do. After the 80’s, my dad got back from the Movement. Even though he was a great student in primary school, he had missed the important part of the school career, which was university. He was so regrets why he was born in 60’s. Otherwise he would have gotten into a university to study more things that he wanted. But there were thousands and tens of thousands people doing the same thing at the same time, so he couldn’t help it. For this reason, he has changed his world view.
Because the Down to the Countryside Movement affected a lot of people including my dad, some of them have a prejudiced view of Marxism-Leninism. My father is a negative person who always stands in Marxism-Leninism. When I was child, I always confused my dad’s theory. He said Marxism-Leninism was a wrong guiding principle for our country. What we really need for our country was capitalism. As you can see, my dad is a capitalist because the Communism Revolution destroyed his life. By the way, whenever the TV is broadcast some politics programs, my dad always tells a lot of boring things that I don’t what to hear about Communism. Except the political view my father’s has changed, the living of life also made him changed.
In the 90’s, thousands of people didn’t have the educational backgrounds because they went to the Down to the Countryside Movement, and then a lot of them lost jobs. For my dad, he didn’t have any diplomas to interview a job or any techniques to apply a job. The only thing he knew was farming, but the world was progressing everyday. People think it was the age of the technology, so they don’t think farming was important for them. As the result, my dad lost the optimum opportune moment to study, so when the companies reduced employees, my dad became the first person they chose. Until now, my dad always says he doesn’t have job because of Mao’s policy affection.
In conclusion, the victim, my father, after the Down to the Countryside Movement baptizes him, he lives as a decadent in his rest life. I know everyone who lives in China knows about the Down to the Countryside Movement. Surely, they have different thoughts between the policies from Mao Zedong. But my dad, the feeling from him was hurt. However, the policy no doubt has fault, but my dad also has to take some responsibilities. After the movement he had many changes to back to school to study or learn some new skills, but he didn’t. So, I think he is just lazy and pushed all the duty back to the country that sent him to the farming, and then he can find something to avoid responsibility and lives more normal. Anyway, he is taking the responsibility for me, so I should take his.
