Madame Bovary ( Book 3)
Round the World in Eighty Days
Phileas Fogg is a quiet, orderly English gentleman, who is also a member of the Reform Club ( one of a number of London clubs in which gentlemen who were voted in as members could spend time for a yearly charge). As he never spoke about himself, nobody knew much else about him. His life is devided between his home and his club, and follows a daily pattern that never changes. His new servant, Passpartout, who has joined his service that same day, is looking forward to a quiet , settled life. Them he makes a bet with his friends that he can travle around the world in eighty days. It is the year 1872, during the nineteenth century, transport systems all over the world were developing rapidly. Still, nobody believe he can make it. As result of the bet he has made, his servant and he are leaving home immediately for a high-speed trip around the world. A crazy and colourful race across Europe, Africa and America follows; while Fogg attempts to travel as quickly as possible, Fix tries to slow him down at every opportunity. The travellers meet with dangers and unexpected delays, and as time goes by it begins to look more and more impossible for them to get back to London before eighty days have passed. Finally, they make it. And for Mr. Fogg, he gains not only the bet from the journey, but also a beautiful and loving lady.
